Hello, my name is Brian O’Halloran and welcome to Bottlecap Travels! I come from the small county of Carlow in Ireland. I grew up in the countryside and spent my summer days playing out in the garden. I’ve always been an outdoor type of person and when I was finally old enough to get a job and start earning my ways, I set off travelling the world!

For me, it all began back in 2014 when I spent two weeks interrailing across Europe with my two housemates. The trip opened my eyes to the world of travel. I fell in love with the freedom, the uncertainty and the opportunities that come with travelling. Exploring new locations, experiencing new cultures and making new friends are just some of the things I love about travelling.

Getting to travel the world professionally is my dream, there is no doubt about it. However, the harsh reality is that the likelihood of actually achieving this dream is literally one in a million. So I have accepted my faith and focused my efforts on balancing a working lifestyle with my passion for travel.

A little bit about me

In 2011 and qualified as a radiation therapist from Trinity College Dublin. Since then I’ve worked full-time in my profession, nine-to-five, five days a week. I have managed all of my adventures using just my annual leave as time off. So far, I have visited 24 different countries and in 2014 I achieved an amazing goal of being abroad every month of the year!

Our plans for the future

This year, my girlfriend and I have taken a massive leap of faith. We have quit our jobs (temporarily) to go travelling the world for six months! The first half of our journey sees us travelling across South East Asia, where we are hoping to explore Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. For the second half of our journey, we aim to take on South America, visiting as many new locations as we can.
